TRUC-ANH creates mental images. For the artist, painting and drawing are means of questioning the relationship between representation and the existence of things, whether imagined or rooted in a tangible reality. In a contemporary world completely saturated with images (the internet, cinema, advertising, phones and other photographic devices…), painting or drawing becomes a way to observe and understand this phenomenon of saturation, a way of experiencing the image. Fighting the image with the image. Drawing, through its spontaneity and free gesture, takes on a shamanic dimension by revealing hidden forms and allows Truc-Anh to engage with a multitude of images encountered randomly on the internet, in books, or in periodicals.

“During my exhibitions, my aim is to challenge the viewer by creating visual enigmas. Some people are resistant to my work because they do not understand it, others delight in it for the same reasons. (…) The work maintains a power relationship, a mix of repulsion and seduction, with the viewer. (…) Reality is only the shadow cast by the imaginary. Everything begins with the imagination. Our objects, our cities, our gods, our traditions, our values—everything has been created. (…) There is more to see in what we do not want to see. It is here, at the boundaries of what is possible for us, that we must open our eyes wide.”

Born in 1983 in Paris, after studying at École Boulle, TRUC-ANH graduated from ECAL in Lausanne and from La Cambre in Brussels, where he later taught. He lives and works between Paris and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). His works are part of private and public collections, including the Espace Lausannois d’Art Contemporain and the Artist Pension Trust in Beijing.
