Fertile Hybridizations

Christian Gonzenbach

To engage in dialogue with the living world.

Fertile Hybridizations explores the multiple forms of encounters and intertwinings between humans, non-humans, knowledge and temporalities.

The visitor is invited to engage with the space, to question, to enter into a dialogue with these artists, researchers and designers, and to attempt, like them, to engage with the living world by moving beyond anthropocentrism — the idea that human beings are at the center of everything — to recognize in other species a form of intelligence and agency, and to reconnect with them through meaningful relationships.

“Herein lies the paradox: to contribute to a future that ensures the well-being of humans, we must transform our philosophical anthropology in a direction where we no longer primarily identify ourselves as human beings. For the good of humans, since this is clearly a central issue in the crises to come, we must first think of ourselves as living beings.”
— Baptiste Morizot, Reviving the Embers of Life.

More than 40 works and installations make up this sensitive landscape, where artists and designers, from various generations and backgrounds, summon observation, experimentation and wonder as so many paths to reconnect.
