The Lyon Municipal Library houses an important collection of contemporary artworks, distinctive yet little known. Formed through the integration of the collections of the artothèque and the Fondation nationale de la photographie, it has continued to grow since the 1990s through research, encounters, reflection and bold experimentation.
The exhibition Dans l’œil presents a selection of works preserved in the Library’s storage facilities, arranged into twelve sections. Photographs, prints, objects and artists’ books: all the works on display belong to the family of multiples — original creations produced in several copies.
Dans l’œil brings visibility to artists who choose to experiment with the multiple for a range of reasons, including aesthetic exploration, economic considerations and the democratisation of art.
